Baylor Neurosurgery Associates was created in September 2004 with the integration of three highly regarded Dallas neurosurgeons:Richard C. Naftalis, M.B.A., M.D., F.A.C.S., and Kyle Doughty, M.D. They are part of Baylor's premiere neurology/neurosurgery program, ranked as one of the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report.
Our physicians are also trained in radiosurgery. Armed with advanced technology, the Cyberknife® and Gamma Knife®, and an innovative radiosurgery center, patients will have the opportunity to have radiosurgical treatment, without formal surgery, on an outpatient basis of many neurosurgical maladies. These include brain and spinal cord neoplasms, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, trigeminal neuralgia and pituitary tumors.
Dr. Richard Naftalis joined Baylor Neurosurgery Associates after 12 years of private practice at Medical City Dallas, the last six as a partner in Neurosurgical Consultants, P.A. A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, he completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham. Dr. Naftalis has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of epilepsy and will develop an epilepsy surgery program at Baylor Dallas. His surgical interests include minimally invasive spinal disc and fusion surgery, brain tumor surgery and treatment, neurovascular surgery and neurotrauma. His research interests include new avenues of spinal surgery, use of bioabsorbable substrates in surgery and applications of evidence-based medicine and practice. Dr. Naftalis also received a master's degree in business administration with sigma iota epsilon honors. He believes that implementation of evidenced-based medical practice, patient education via print material and Internet access, plus compassionate care all create a more satisfying and nurturing patient experience.
Dr. Kyle Doughty joins Baylor Neurosurgery Associates after completing his residency at the University of Alabama - Birmingham School of Medicine. He attended The University of Oklahoma college of Medicine in Oklahoma City. Dr. Doughty's professional interest include cerebrovascular disease, meningiomas and skull base tumors, surgical management of trigeminal neuralgia, spinal trauma and general neurosurgery.
